Alex Miller’s EP “My Daddy’s Dad” Review

Alex Miller has been hard at work and just recently released his five-song EP “My Daddy’s Dad”. Alex shows in this EP his ability to adapt and broaden his reach. He shows he is capable of writing and performing all styles of Country music, with this fantastic, heartfelt release.

“She Makes Dirt Look Good”, is a romantic, upbeat tune starting the EP off in a light-hearted way. The song has an early 2000s feel to it that I love! The instrumentals bring a Sammy Kershaw feeling and Alex talks of love from a man’s perspective about his woman; and how her presence makes him feel strong and confident.

Alex released “Oh Odessa” as a single and this song flows smoothly as a river. Alex’s vocal climax of “Oh Odessa” is a captivating story and lyrical heartache on his sleeve.

Knowing where Alex has been born and raised I can easily envision “The Last House in God’s Country”. This piece of heaven is in God’s country (Lancaster, Ky). Proud of his roots, there’s nothing quite like growing up in a true country setting, going to church Sunday mornings and just soaking in “a little piece of paradise tucked back up in the hills.”

“I wanted to do this record in memory of my Grandad GB Miller. His love for Country Music is what has led me to a life of performing Country Music. I remember him telling me, ‘Kindly keep it country, but don’t be afraid of going a little more modern.’ This EP does exactly that; it showcases my traditional Country voice with a modern arrangement. I’m not trying to reinvent myself. I’m just singing what I love and that is Country Music. I know this record would be blaring in my grandad’s tractor stereo, and I hope it finds its way to yours.” -Alex Miller

“Ain’t Ever Saying Never”, is possibly my favorite song on this EP because of how it starts and ends in perfect harmony. Alex’s vocals are as smooth as butter; the steel guitar and violin give such a strong instrumental support that for me, is a smash hit.

Alex Miller pays homage to his late grandfather, GB Miller, with this album in reverence of GB’s legacy. “My Daddy’s Dad” displays the admiration Alex has instilled deep in his heart for his grandfather GB, who spent time cultivating and shaping Alex’s youth. He raised him up right on the farm and with true values.

Overall, this EP “My Daddy’s Dad” is a continuation of an impressive discography that Alex Miller is building. Each track brings a meaning – one partial to Alex but also to the listener. I have nothing negative and only high praise for the continued high-quality music this young man is creating.
