Country-Pop Duo 2 Lane Summer Releases Hooky, ’90s Throwback ‘When You Love Somebody’

Official Music Video Was Filmed on One of America’s Most Iconic
2-Lane Roads, Made Famous by the Oscar-Winning Forrest Gump

NASHVILLE, TN (Sept. 12, 2025) – QHMG / Quartz Hill Records’ soulful country-pop duo, 2 Lane Summer, today release the audio track and official music video for “When You Love Somebody,” an anything-for-you, radio-ready romance.

While many current Nashville records are paying tribute to ’90s country, hooky throwback “When You Love Sombody” takes inspiration from ’90s pop country while also tipping its hat to peak Backstreet Boys. 2 Lane Summer (Joe Hanson and Chris Ray) invoke classic vocal echoing whenever the song’s title is repeated across the crazy-catchy chorus, showcasing the smooth harmonies that Billboard has described as “bold and beautiful.”

Written by 2 Lane Summer alongside Mike Mobley (Rascal Flatts’ Platinum-certified “Easy”) and the track’s producer, Ash Bowers (Matt Stell’s No. 1 “Prayed for You”), “When You Love Somebody” spends its verses detailing the complicated lengths a man will go to, to keep love alive, then keeps it simple in the chorus:

When you love (when you love) somebody

It’s a free fall feeling you don’t wanna lose

When you love (when you love) somebody

You can’t even stop it if you wanted to

“Sometimes, love will make you do crazy things, so this song is all about going to the ends of the Earth to show someone that you love them,” says Joe. “It was a pretty quick song for us to write because Chris and I are both in love with our girls, and we love playing the song out live because it just kind of lights up the room.”

Directed by Sam Aldrich, the feel-good tune’s official music video was filmed along a stretch of two-lane road running through the stunning desert landscape of Monument Valley on the Arizona / Utah state line. The road is part of US Route 163, which was made famous by the 1994 Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

“Because it’s such a tourist attraction, a lot of people were stopping to see the road while we were filming, but then they got intrigued by what we were doing,” says Chris. “Maybe they thought we were shooting Forrest Gump 2, but they started taking their phones out and videoing us and wanting to take pictures. So that was cool to connect with people out there.”

Shooting took place during 2 Lane Summer’s recent two-week road trip from Tennessee to California and back. The duo traveled along iconic American two-lane roads, also including Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway. The road trip took Joe and Chris through nine states – Tennessee, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Wyoming, South Dakota and Missouri – where they met many of the small-town Americans who are celebrated in 2 Lane Summer’s musical toast to country guys and girls, “Here’s to You.”

2 Lane Summer continues to organically amass a fast-growing fan base, including more than 635,000 social media followers. Signing with Quartz Hill Records in January and releasing debut EP The Love Songs in March, the duo boasts a music catalog that has surpassed 13.6 million total streams

ABOUT 2 LANE SUMMER

Joe Hanson and Chris Ray may have taken different roads to Nashville – Joe migrating south from Illinois and Chris heading north from Mississippi – but when they started crossing paths in Music Row writing rooms, the fast friends soon realized how much they had in common. Both were multi-instrumentalists who’d grown up singing in church and with a musical DNA that also incorporated country and soulful pop. When Joe and Chris began to harmonize vocally, the power, precision and emotional impact of that blend quickly revealed that these two men were born to sing together. Converging as 2 Lane Summer, the duo built a strong fan base on social media before now signing with Quartz Hill Records. The duo’s latest release, “When You Love Somebody,” is a radio-ready, ’90s pop-country throwback about the lengths a man will go to, to keep love alive. 2 Lane Summer’s debut EP, The Love Songs, was released in March and features the heartfelt focus track “Til the Day That I Die.” For more information, visit 2lanesummer.com or follow the duo on InstagramTikTokFacebookX and YouTube.
