Brian McKnight took to the stage in Huber Heights, OH performing a set filled with many of his soulful love songs that spans a 20 year career and counting. The one thing that I didn’t know about Brian through a little research is that he is multi instrumental. Brian plays instruments such guitar piano, bass guitar, trombone, drums, tuba, flugelhorn and trumpet. Tonight’s performance featured Brian’s smooth vocals, sex appeal and showcased Brian’s talent’s on guitar and keyboard as well. You could really tell the women in the crowd were very excited to see Brian McKnight in Ohio.
Brian would perform songs such as “My Kind Of Girl”, “Crazy Love”, “Do You Ever Think About Me” and his most recognized hit “Back at One”. Brian would entertain the crowd with his charm, jokes, and send the girls in a frenzy with just a flash of his smile. At one point during the evening Brian would pick out a girl in the crowd to join him onstage for a serenade. However, two girls came running down the aisle as McKnight would call to correct the mishap by saying “Oh, Oh White Top, Girl in the white top” as the crowd laughed and the girl who had mistakenly thought it was her returned to her seat. Brian would proceed to serenade the girl onstage as she sat on a stool and was presented with a bouquet of flowers. As Brian would finish the song he would grab her by the hand and have her stand up as she would wrap her arms around him and begin to fan herself with one hand. A peck on the cheek would wrap up the memorable moment for the lucky lady.
Brian McKnight would invite the crowd to become an interactive part of his show and they responded. Many audience members would sit and snuggle with their significant others while others were standing and dancing in the aisles and seats. Brian certainly put on a top notch performance showcasing his very well controlled and complex vocal talent.
Headlining tonight’s show at The Rose would be soulful Jazz saxophonist Boney James. Boney would rock the house as he worked the stage from the middle all the way across both sides. The crowd responded well to Boney’s energetic performance and many fans would stand and dance, while the rest would dance in their seats. I noticed one couple dancing n the aisle between the main floor and the balcony as well as a father and daughter swing dancing in the front corner near the stage. Boney would perform songs from past albums as well as his most current album “futuresoul”. Boney would announce that the new album could be purchased after the show for $10 and he would personally sign each one as he would greet each person that bought the album. In Addition to Boney James’ talented sax performance, Boney would also be joined onstage with a surprise guest vocalist by the name of Jason Morales for a couple of numbers.
Boney is an entertainer and can really wow an audience with his soulful sax playing and his playful antics onstage while keeping the crowds attention throughout the entire performance. Boney would even pose while playing his sax over one audience member as the fan would take a selfie. As Boney would introduce his song “Contact” he would say “There’s different kinds of contact, electrical contact, physical contact, but tonight, I’m Just trying to make contact with all of you guys out there”. Boney would do just that and take a leisurely stroll down the stage stairs and into the crowd where he would work a group of girls into a dancing mob around him while he rocked it out sax style! Boney would work his way throughout the crowd while fans took selfies until he danced and played himself to the fans in the balcony to show his love and appreciation for everybody in the audience. Boney would even stand on an empty seat in the middle of the crowd as the energy in the Rose would increase ten fold!
I would highly recommend taking the time to check out Boney James as he is a true musician and his talent is beyond explanation. If you check out one of his live shows I assure you, you will certainly be entertained!
