Kansas made a stop to the Historical Tennessee Theater in Knoxville Tennessee on this tour. We are So glad they did!
I arrived to the Historical Tennessee Theater on the day of the show to Eager Fans waiting to get in and seen the line to get in was down the block and around the corner. The line moved very fast. I had a chance to chat with a few fans while waiting on the show to start and some were long time die hard fans and there were some fans it was their first time seeing the band.
There was no opening band because its Kansas and they didn’t need one! The band took to the stage about eight that night . The crowd cheered when the curtain was pulled . They Played a little over two hours. They Really could have played all night considering the amount of material they have they could play.
They Started off with their song “Belexes” and went straight into “Point Of No Return” which was a crowd pleaser! They played approximately 20 songs total.
During The show they did an acoustic set. The Crowd erupted with cheers when they played their popular song “Dust In The wind” . It was Great Hearing all their songs and some they said they haven’t done in years .
They Announced the band members one by one and the Crowd once again erupted with cheers especially for Rich Williams ( Guitarist). Rich was seated on stage all night but could still play that guitar like he did back in the day. After Their acoustic set they switched drummers and to the cheering crowd founding drummer Phil Ehart emerged behind the drums to finish out the night on about the last thirty minutes or so of the show. Phil had hurt his arm and was still only allowed to play a short time but the crowd went wild when he came out! Phil sounded great and gave it his All !! Phil co-wrote the popular songs “Point Of No return ” and ” Play the Game Tonight” . Singer Ronnie Platt sounded incredible ! Doing The Vocals and also playing keyboards from time to time. Billy Greer was on bass and Tom Brislin on Keyboards both giving it their all for the fans. The Music sounded phenomenal ! They Have A new member of the band Joe Deninzon. He is hailed as the Jimi Hendrix of the violin and I would have to agree! Playing his viper seven string electronic violin he definitely had the audience attention . He has played with a lot of star players including but not limited to : The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Cheryl Crow, 50 Cent, and even Peter Criss of Kiss Just to name a few. The Band Sounded Phenomenal from start to finish! They Played ” Miracles Out Of Nowhere” which was fantastic! Their encore song was their mega hit ” Carry On Wayward Son” . They Received a standing and cheering ovation from the sold out crowd! People had come from all over to see this MUST SEE show! It was definitely an incredible and phenomenal night of music! The Backdrops were even spectacular! This being their 50th anniversary tour you should definitely catch one or more of their shows because you will not be disappointed!
