Styx with Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos at Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia August 10, 2021

by Glenn Woodell

Styx is one of those bands that if you’ve seen them before you can see them all over again with the same excitement. The vocal harmonies, the keyboard runs and guitar solos, and the drums all bring back the same memories for those singing along, playing air guitar, or thumping out the beat. Throughout their 49 year history, they have had a few member changes, like most bands, but they’ve been able to retain the same, familiar sound over the years and that was evident by the audience, young and old who were singing along. The large space between the audience and the stage provided ample room for those who wanted to dance and get a closer experience. And a special treat this night was an appearance by one of the founding members, bassist, Chuck Panozzo, who stepped out and surprised the crowd on Light Up.

Set list:
Fight of Our Lives
Blue Collar Man
Grand Illusion
Lady
Miss America
Save Up from Ourselves
Crystal Ball

Rockin’ the Paradise
Too Much Time on My Hands

Encore – Mr. Robato, Renegade

Starting off the show was a favorite to the local area of the Hampton Roads area, Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos. To experience a performance from this original blues rock band is to be “Roo’d”. The Conqueroos play a mix of hard hitting covers and their own originals that have become familiar sing alongs among the locals.
