NASHVILLE, TN – (April 6, 2026) – Thompson Square releases “Lay It On Me,” a high-energy track with a swampy groove co-written by Thompson Square’s Keifer and Shawna Thompson along with highly regarded Nashville songwriters, Johnathan Singleton and Ryan Hurd that continues the duo’s evolution toward more dynamic, performance-driven material. The upbeat single serves as the second release from their forthcoming album, reflecting a renewed focus on creating songs that translate powerfully in a live setting while staying true to the sound they love.
“Lay It On Me” pulls listeners straight into a summer night where everything feels a little slower and a little sweeter. From the crunch of gravel under tires to the glow of moonlight through the trees, the song paints a vivid picture of two people letting their guard down and leaning into the moment. There is an easy chemistry woven throughout, carried by a relaxed groove and details that feel lived in and real, inviting listeners to step into the scene and stay awhile. It is the kind of song that feels just as at home on a back road drive as it does turned up loud at a live show, capturing that carefree, close-to-the-heart feeling that makes you want to hit repeat.

“This was our first time writing with Johnathon and Ryan They were both great writers so we were excited to go into the session and create something special. We walked away with ‘Lay It On Me.’ We love the energy and that swampy feel, it really captures where we are creatively right now. We’ve been writing a lot with the live show in mind, bringing more energy into this next project and focusing on the kind of songs we genuinely love to listen to. Following their two recent releases “You Were There” and “Livin’ in the Country”, “Lay In On me” continues painting the picture of what’s to come with this exciting new project.”
Johnathan Singleton shared, “I’ve always been a fan of Thompson Square. Me and Ryan were pumped back when we got to go out with them and write. We wrote a killer song, and sometimes songs take time to find their moment. I’m so glad this one is coming out!”
Ryan Hurd added, “This was actually my first time ever on a tour bus. It was so fun to be a brand new songwriter getting an opportunity to write for a few days with Thompson Square and a hit songwriter like Jonathan. Still such a great memory for me.”Produced by Mickey Jack Cones, “Lay It On Me” was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville, engineered by Casey Wood with assistance from Michael Walters. The track features Miles McPherson (drums), Craig Young (bass), and Ilya Toshinskiy, with Cones and Derek Jones contributing across acoustic and electric guitars, keys, programming and background vocals alongside Rob McNelly, Derek Wells and David Dorn. Mixed by Cones at The Conederoza and mastered by Andrew Mendelson at Georgetown Masters, the production maintains a cohesive, performance-driven sound.

About Thompson Square:
Everyone remembers where they were the first time they heard Thompson Square. More than a decade after the husband and wife duo of Keifer and Shawna Thompson broke out of Nashville with the multi-Platinum hit ‘Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not,’ audiences remain eager for more. The GRAMMY-nominated pair has toured internationally, earned No. 1 records in three countries, collected multiple awards and appeared on The Tonight Show, Conan O’ Brian,Jimmy Kimmel Live!, NBC’s TODAY, CBS This Morning and numerous prime-time television specials and award shows. Along the way, they have also launched their own podcast and drawn praise as “remarkable” from Taste of Country, “deeply personal and emotional” from Sounds Like Nashville and “vivacious” from Rolling Stone.
Thompson Square is in full force with this new music that reflects both where the duo started and how far they have come. “Keifer and I really got back to our roots,” Shawna says of the pair’s latest chapter. “But we’ve grown too, and the music reflects all of that.” Their new material carries the heart, chemistry and emotional honesty that first connected with listeners while adding the perspective that comes from life on the road, hard won experience and the realities of building a family together.
That balance has always defined Thompson Square’s music. From the luminous devotion of the No. 1 hit ‘If I Didn’t Have You’ to the playful tension of the Top 10 favorite ‘Everything I Shouldn’t Be Thinking About,’ the duo has built a catalog rooted in the truth of a real relationship. Their willingness to be open with listeners has made Thompson Square one of country music’s most intimate and relatable acts, with songs that feel personal without ever losing their broad audience appeal.
The next chapter continues that tradition. Each song from the upcoming project reflects a life lived together, capturing the dizzying highs, quiet tenderness, hard lessons and occasional heartbreak that come with love and partnership, while still leaving room for the high energy songs and good time spirit that have always been part of the duo’s identity. The result is music that feels both familiar and newly sharpened, designed to take listeners on a journey that mirrors much of their own lives.
That spirit is front and center on the duo’s recent release ‘Lay It on Me,’ written by Keifer Thompson, Shawna Thompson and Jonathan Singleton and Ryan Hurd. The track revisits the country foundation that shaped both artists during their formative years while pairing Thompson Square’s signature love song sensibility with an energetic, roots driven sound. It is fresh without losing authenticity, a reminder that the best songs reflect real life. For Keifer and Shawna, they are not just singing these songs, they’re telling the stories of their life. And like with all great stories, we can’t wait to see what comes next.
