John Carter Cash Releases Animated Video for “Pineapple John”

(NASHVILLE, Tenn. — June 19, 2026) Grammy-winning producer, musician, author, artist, and preservationist John Carter Cash has released a vibrant animated video for “Pineapple John,” the title track of his most recent album.

The animated video was developed from original artwork created by Adam Baker, whose distinctive illustrations established the visual world of “Pineapple John.” Under the creative production guidance of Paul Douglas, and with animation brought to life by Zack Wells and his team, the colorful visuals transform Baker’s artwork into a whimsical island adventure filled with tropical landscapes, ocean treasures, mermaids, and the enduring wisdom of its unforgettable title character.

Co-written by John Carter Cash and Jack Ezra Cash, the song represents a creative collaboration between father and son, continuing a family tradition of storytelling through music that spans generations. Together, they crafted a tune that is both playful and profound, inviting listeners to embrace life’s adventures while finding meaning beneath the surface.

At its heart, “Pineapple John” is a meditation on life’s struggles and, ultimately, a journey of self-discovery. Through lyrics such as “He finds it easy to carry on / In the Jamaican sun” and “You finally find yourself in the sea’s reflection,” the song explores what it means to spend a lifetime searching for a dream that may always remain just beyond reach while still finding joy, humor, and hope along the way.

The album and its title track have earned praise for their unique artistic vision and genre-blending approach. Americana Highway described the project as “ambitious” and praised its blend of “country, folk and traditional calypso.” Meanwhile, Country Music News International called Pineapple John “a triumph of artistic vision and collaborative spirit,” adding that John Carter Cash “has not only created a beautiful collection of songs but a cohesive, emotionally resonant piece of art that stands on its own as a significant work of contemporary folk.”

Throughout the video, viewers encounter floating pineapples, hidden treasures beneath the sea, island sunsets, and a wandering protagonist whose journey reflects the song’s deeper message about perseverance and finding peace amid life’s changing tides. The collaborative effort creates a dreamlike visual experience that complements the track’s themes of resilience, reflection, and self-discovery.

“One of the things I love most about this project is that it encourages people to slow down and experience music as a complete work of art,” says John Carter Cash. “People will spend hours immersed in a great film or a great book, but we’ve lost some of that connection to sitting with an album, absorbing the music, and exploring the artwork that helps tell the story. This video is an extension of that experience.”
