“Origins” is the first solo album by Alex Mari, set for a self‑released digital launch on October 9, 2026.

“Origins” grew out of Alex‘s decision to revisit and transform the earliest songs he wrote between the late 1990s and the early 2000s, while he was playing in the bands O.D.U. and Ophiura. Some of these tracks first appeared on Ophiura‘s 2007 EP “Ancestral Whispers”, while others survived only through live performances, or had never been officially released.

The album is not a simple re-release, but a true metamorphosis. The songs have been completely rearranged, newly recorded, and reinterpreted through a more mature sound and a fresh artistic, personal perspective.

“The idea was to bring back songs written many years ago – songs filled with hopes, emotions, dreams, struggles and visions – and finally give them the love they deserve,” says Alex Mari.

The title “Origins” represents a return to the beginning, but not a nostalgic look back. Instead, it’s a way of bringing those songs into the present with a different level of awareness, with artistic and production possibilities that weren’t available when they were first written.

Musically, the album sits within melodic metal, combining cinematic textures, pop‑infused melodies and arrangements shaped by a progressive sensibility. Rock and metal foundations coexist with orchestral elements, evocative atmospheres and narrative structures in which the vocals and the melody remain central. The songs are often conceived as scenes from a film. Dark, spiritual, introspective and metaphysical atmospheres shape a journey through memory, identity, loss, transformation and rebirth. Each track retains the emotional essence of its original form while being reimagined from a present-day perspective.

“Origins” ultimately becomes a bridge between past and present through metal roots and cinematic vision. Rather than simply returning to his origins, Alex Mari transforms them into a new starting point.

The album was mixed and mastered by Roberto Priori at Pri Studio (Danger Zone, Wheels Of Fire, Raintimes, Michele Luppi, Backlash, Night Pleasure Hotel) in Bologna, Italy. The first single, “Resurrection,” accompanied by a music video, is scheduled for release on August 7.

Alex Mari is an Italian rock/metal singer, songwriter, and musician known for his original work with the AOR band Night Pleasure Hotel and the progressive rock band Barock Project. He has also provided backing vocals for Michele Luppi (Whitesnake).
