Let’s Talk Ice Cream and Music with SOUTHERN HALO

Since July is National Ice Cream month Music Matters Magazine thought what better way to find out unknown facts about our favorite country trio- Southern Halo than to discover your favorite ice cream treats and talk a little about what is going on in your world of music.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Nata: Chocolate chip cookie dough!

Tinka: Rocky road all the way!

Hannah: Fudge brownie ice cream

Do you prefer it in a bowl, cone, and waffle?

Nata: Waffle cone

Tinka: Waffle cone—so I can eat the whole treat and not have to worry about washing dishes afterwards.

Hannah: In a bowl, but with a waffle cone crunched inside!

How many scoops make up the perfect ice cream treat?

Nata: Two GIANT scoops!

Tinka: Three scoops. No less, no more.

Hannah: Uh, three—of course!

Fruit or candy toppings? And what kinds?

Nata: I love both! Fresh strawberries and M&Ms is the best together.

Tinka: I always choose strawberries, blueberries and peanuts as my toppings!

Hannah: I like brownie bites or cookie dough as an ice cream topper!

Is ice cream a year-round thing or only summer time when it’s warm?

Nata: It truly depends on where we are. When we are on the road, we run into the coolest frozen desserts—and I ALWAYS make a point to enjoy them anytime of the year!

Tinka: Personally, ice cream is a year-round treat that I consider should be enjoyed for every celebration!

Hannah: All year round, baby!

Favorite ice cream shop?

Nata: OOO—I love Marble Slab Creamery.

Tinka: Mike’s Ice Cream shop in Nashville of course!

Hannah: Delta Dairy—a cute little local frozen yogurt shop in our hometown!

Do you have a favorite brand of ice cream? (Blue Bell, Eddy’s, Häagen-Daz, etc.)

Nata: My favorite ice cream brand is of course Halo Top because I can eat the whole pint and not feel too guilty!

Tinka: I really like Breyers. It’s so rich and creamy!

Hannah: Sweet Magnolia Gelato Co. is my FAVORITE! They have hundreds of flavors—and we are great friends with the creator from Clarksdale, MS!

Is frozen yogurt just as good as ice cream?

Nata: Um YES. Frozen dessert in any shape or form is always a good idea.

Tinka: Frozen yogurt is definitely better than ice cream to me because it has less of an iced feel and more of a chilled, soft, creamy feel instead. Ya know?

Hannah: Yes!!!

We have loved the music from Southern Halo since we first heard your “Just Like In The Movies” album which has made a HUGE impact in Nashville when released weeks before CMA Festival. How was performing at CMA fest last month?

Nata: Thank you so much! We are very proud of our new album, ‘Just Like In The Movies’ and are completely humbled to what all it has offered us so far. CMA Fest this year was by far the best one yet because of the amazing fan interactions and audience participation at all of our shows! It truly was one to never forget.

Tinka: Playing at CMA Fest was such a thrilling rush for the girls and me. Loads of performances and loads of fun with fans!

Hannah: This was our third CMA Fest, and I always have such a great time. It’s so much fun seeing country music fans and our musician/artist friends that we’ve made through the years all in Nashville celebrating country music!

Your new single “Anything Is Possible” is out and fans are loving it. Has that given Southern Halo a boost of confidence in your dreams?

Nata: “Anything Is Possible” truly has definitely lived up to its meaning. This single has taken us farther than any other, and we are so thankful for all of the radio and fan support through this song. We love it, our fans, and we LOVE country radio!

Tinka: Absolutely! Seeing our fans really gravitate towards our new single has motivated us to want to work harder and be even better with each performance.

Hannah: Definitely! “Anything Is Possible” has been such a great single off of our new album and it has been so great to see that it has made a true impact on our fans and country radio. We are more confident knowing that ‘Anything is Possible’! 😉

You performed the High School Nations Tour earlier this year. Will you be going out again this fall? What has it been like so far?

Nata: As a matter of fact, YES! We are joining High School Nation on the road again this fall in Texas and Florida. We had such a great time with the HSN team this past spring as we helped spread the love of music through schools in Las Vegas, NV and Phoenix, AZ. Each school that High School Nation visits receives a recording studio donated by the organization and gets to have a fun filled day with artists like us!

Tinka: Touring with High School Nation has been the best collection of performances that I’ve ever experienced! It’s so cool to perform everyday surrounded by others who love music just as much as you do and inspire kids to celebrate the arts in their schools. Can’t wait to see what the Fall Tour brings for us!

Hannah: Yes! We can’t wait to be back on the road with HSN again this fall. High School Nation has been such a great experience for me to be able to travel all over the place performing for high schoolers. So many kids love music and it feels so cool to inspire them to chase their dreams.

How is life on the road with being family?

Nata: My family is just as important and special to me as music is, so the fact that we get to play music together on the road is a dream come true. My sisters and I have always been close but working together in Southern Halo has brought out our true business minds and has helped make our bond even TIGHTER! Plus, it’s even better that we have our two biggest supporters—Mom and Dad—right there by our side to watch us grow into the traveling artists we aspire to be.

Tinka: Having your family with you on the road is the most enjoyable part of our job. It’s like having your best friends with you everywhere you go, so it’s always a good time!

Hannah: Life on the road with my family is great. We’ve always been really close, so being able to share the same love for music together is truly incredible. My sisters make what we do such an amazing job, while Mom and Dad help us learn the kinks of life along the way!

Does it make it easier or more stressful?

Nata: Being with your sisters all the time honestly makes traveling much easier. We all get a little down and question ourselves sometimes, and I can’t tell you how amazing it is to have my two built-in-best friends right there by my side to pick me up when I need it—and vice versa!

Tinka: Easier! They have my back at all times. A lot of people don’t know that the road life isn’t always so glamorous, and sometimes you run into people who try to knock you down. My family keeps me grounded, and that’s why I can’t imagine traveling or being in a band with anybody else!

Hannah: SO much easier. We make traveling fun by giving certain road tasks to each other. For example: Nata is the best at finding the coolest places to eat, Tinka finds fun facts about/sites to see in each place we visit, and I scout out/book the hotels!

  1. As one of Grand family members I can honestly say these girls aren’t kidding when they mention their strong their mutual bond. From the day they were born they loved and cared for one another, amazing, and not seen in families these days. One other factoid that you may not know is there care and interest in nature especially animals of all kinds. Home was a Zoo, with all matter of wildlife… you want a Dog, Hannah would get it for you.
The love is real… we their family are blessed to be a part.
    love ya’s,
    Pops..
