Jeanine Fuller & The True Funk Souldiers Open up for 80’s Rockers Loverboy!
It was a Hot but unsettled weather day in June in the city Of Oak Ridge Tennessee .
That Didn’t stop Jeanine Fuller & The True Funk Souldiers. They were Opening for 80’s Rockers Loverboy at the Secret City Festival in Oak Ridge Tennessee.
The Festival is held every year at A.K. Bissell Park .
I knew I was going to like the band as soon as I saw the Purple Scarf with Prince symbol on it on Jeanine Microphone stand.
Jeanine and the band wasted no time getting the crowd up and on their feet and dancing and grooving to the beat.
A very memorable and moving performance they did was of the Prince song “Purple Rain” . Everyone was singing and dancing around and surprisingly enough that was the only time it Rained during her set! and it stopped raining right after the song and the sun came back out. Guess the Purple one himself approved. Jeanine told me Prince is her idol and she wanted to pay tribute to him since the show was on his birthday. They also did another Prince song “ Kiss”. They also performed “Rock With You”(Michael Jackson) ”Superstition” ( Stevie Wonder) along with several other Songs.
Jeanine – originally from Brooklyn New York now calls Knoxville Tennessee Home. We sure are glad to have her here too!.
She is quite an accomplished and versatile singer/performer . Having been classically trained she can master any music style to her set blending in Soul, Funk, Blues, Jazz, R & B, Pop, Rock and Gospel.
She has also toured Europe with The Golden Gospel Singers, This girl has done it all! Including having her own cabaret show in downtown
NYC.
She has also had the pleasure of singing alsongside with 5 time Grammy winner Jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves.
Jeanine Fuller and the True Funk Soldiers is more of a concept than a one set band . Jeanine is the founder/leader/lead vocalist. Sam Adams (Keyboards/or Guitar and music director/ arranger.) The group can consist of anywhere from 4 to 9 players and singers.
Players at the Secret City Festival were Sam Adams (Keys/Guitar), A. P Hardway (Bass), Brandon Whitaker (Guitar), Marcel Holman (Sax), Kevin Krapf ( Drums), and Stina Nesbit (backing Vocals).
