(September 18, 2026) — Today, RECORDS Nashville/Columbia singer-songwriter-guitarist Ty Myers unveils his new album Two Braids & The Truth – My Tribute To Willie, a 10-song homage to Country legend Willie Nelson. To celebrate the arrival of his long-brewing passion project, the 19-year-old rising star is sharing his rendition of “Write Your Own Songs”: an unbridled defense of creative freedom, featuring vocals from Nelson himself. Willie Nelson here.Released just months after his acclaimed sophomore LP Heavy On The Soul, Two Braids & The Truth emerged from a deep-rooted desire to salute the legacy of one of his greatest musical heroes — a fellow Texas native whose singular songcraft and freewheeling musicianship inspired Myers from an incredibly early age. In curating the album’s tracklist, the PLATINUM-selling hitmaker selected the songs that proved most formative in his own evolution as an artist and songwriter, ranging from era-defining classics like “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” to enduring fan favorites like “Me and Paul.” Last month, Myers previewed Two Braids & The Truth with the premiere of “Always On My Mind” feat. Produced by Myers’ longtime collaborator Brandon Hood, Two Braids & The Truth achieves a particularly ear-catching power on “Write Your Own Songs.” Originally recorded as a duet between Nelson and Waylon Jennings for their 1982 collaborative album WWII, the sharp-tongued yet spirit-lifting tune takes aim at music-industry gatekeepers (from the chorus: “We’re making you rich and you’re already lazy / So just lay on your ass and get richer or write your own songs”). With Nelson joining in at the refrain, “Write Your Own Songs” reveals a more mischievous side of Myers, fully leaning into the irreverent humor and rebellious streak of Nelson’s songwriting while infusing every line with his easygoing charm. With its standouts also including Nelson’s signature concert opener “Whiskey River” and the timeless ballad “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground,” Two Braids & The Truth finds Myers working with a formidable lineup of musicians, including guitarist Tom Bukovac (Glen Campbell, Vince Gill), steel guitarist Bruce Bouton (George Strait, Emmylou Harris), keyboardist Gordon Mote (Brad Paisley, Hank Williams, Jr.), and Nelson’s own longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael. Rather than simply recreating the originals, Myers approaches the album as both a student and a self-possessed artist, honoring the heart of Nelson’s recordings while filtering them through his own distinct sensibilities. Two Braids & The Truth arrives at an auspicious moment for Myers, who’s gearing up for a run of appearances alongside Nelson in the coming days. On September 22 and 24, he’ll join Willie Nelson & Family and Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts as a special guest for a pair of co-headlining shows at Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, CT, and TD Pavilion at the Mann in Philadelphia, PA. Next, on September 26, he’ll make his Farm Aid debut at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, VA, joining an all-star lineup that also includes Nelson and Young, as well as John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff, and more.
