David Allan Coe Plays To A Packed House At Slick Willy’s In Knoxville Tn.

The Legendary David Allan Coe and his band played on December 16th at a new club in Knoxville Tennessee called Slick Willy’s. Even though Slick Willy’s has not been open even a year they are The Hot Spot in North Knoxville. Owner Christiana Conley is not new to the bar scene and knows what brings in the crowds. Booking everything from Rocking Tribute bands to country acts and local bands.

The Venue started filling up early. They brought in metal barricades for the front of the stage. Security was tight. People started piling in by the handful. They had to bring in extra folding chairs for the dance floor area there was so many people. It was definitely wall to wall people that night. You could feel the excitement building.
Around 7pm a Local favorite The Temper Evans Band opened the show. Comprised of Temper Evans on vocals /guitar, and her Brother Dereck Evans on guitar/vocals and Kris Jones on guitar /vocals. along with two more good friends. They got the crowd warmed up nicely playing everything from Charlie Daniels, 4 non blondes, Journey, Creedence Clearwater Revival, just to name a few. Close to the end of their set David Allan Coe came inside to the merch booth for a few minutes for a quick meet and greet. Then around 9pm David Allan Coe and his band( which includes his Lovely wife Kimberly who plays tambourine and sings)started taking the stage.! Even though David is walking with a quad cane and sat in a nice cushy chair for the show .
He still sang and played and sounded great! He sang everything from “Long Haired Redneck”, “Jack Daniels If You Please” Drift Away, Picture , If That Aint Country” (which the audience participated in singing along ) “Please Come to Boston”,” Willie, Waylon and Me”. He talked and told stories and at one point during the show in true DAC fashion held up both hands flipping the bird saying ” Im 78 years old Fuck you too.” Proving hes Alive and still Rockin!  He ended the night with the crowd standing ovation to his hits ” The Ride” and ” You Never Even Called Me By My Name”.  Even after the show a crowd of girls started singing a chorus of ” You Never Even Called Me By My Name” in the ladies room.  A great time was had by all.
